Tickets, Crew Leader Responsibilities, Fire Extinguishers and Licences!

May 8th, 2008

By now, all of you who are entering a vehicle to compete at Mudbash are busy with getting it ready, cleaning up those helmets and harnesses ready and raring to go! Please read the information below regarding items you may have overlooked.

Tickets
Please note that Presold tickets close on 15th May 2008. If your crew requires the “Discounted Driver Tickets” or “Presold Tickets” you need to ensure the order is in by then. You cannot order “Discounted Driver Tickets” online they must be submitted with your vehicle entry or mailed to us after the entry has been received. We will not issue any tickets after this date, you will need to buy them at the gate.

Crew Leader Responsibilities
Please read the this document for crew leader responsibilities for the event. You must adhere to these expectations while at the event, regardless of competing in a car.

Entries
By now you should have all entered your vehicles. If you have not, we may not be able to let you compete. You need to ensure your entries are mailed off no later than 8th May 2008. If you have any queries, please contact me. My phone number is below.

Fire Extinguishers
Please note the following information regarding fire extinguishers at Mudbash and other RSM Events.

Many Rovers are jumping up and down about having to purchase fire extinguishers every two years for their competition vehicles.  This is frustrating for Rovers when the events we are competing in are non-speed.
The fire extinguisher schedule in the CAMS manual (Schedule H found at www.camsmanual.com.au) does not address non-speed events in the schedule and nor does it qualify the lifespan of a hand-held extinguisher.
As per khanacross regulations, item 5.5 states that a fire extinguisher of at least 900g capacity, complying with Schedule H of the NCR must be fitted to competing vehicles.
Schedule H states that the fire extinguisher:

(i)                 must comply with Australian standards
(ii)                it must be of at least 900g capacity;
(iii)              it must remain restrained under acceleration
(iv)              it must be capable of being removed by the driver

The Australian Standard mandates a 2 year servicing cycle on extinguishers. Therefore extinguishers would require servicing or replacement every two years.

When serviced, the unit must be tested to a level 4 test at a minimum.  This test requires a full discharge and bottle inspection and then refill to the requirements.  This is usually more expensive than the cost for a new one.  Please ensure that your fire extinguisher will comply for Mudbash and is in accordance with the CAMS rules.  The Mudbash team will keep you updated if there is any change. If you have any questions about fire extinguishers or other vehicle scrutineering matters, please contact the Mudbash Chief Scrutineer, Gary Howard on email at rakfrc AT bigpond DOT com.

Open Day
Open Day will be quite busy this year, with plenty of things to do. We’ll have displays of Rally Cars, RSM Victoria’s Junior Development Program Cars, Tyre Changing Competitions, Tyre Hooky, Colouring Competitions, CFA Fire Appliances etc. These are all directed at our younger sections of scouting, please speak with your Joey, Cub, Venturer & Scout Leaders to promote open day. More information on Open Day is available at http://www.mudbash.com/?page_id=28

We have mailed out information to most group leaders, so they may be asking your crew for more information.

CAMS Licences
While Mudbash Committee will be checking over everyone’s licence details before the event and raising any issues with your crew leader. There might be some that can slip through as not all members have provided us with their CAMS number. Can you please all check your licences to ensure they’ll be in date for Mudbash, or if you do not have one you must apply for one now. We can issue temporary licences on the weekend but we need to avoid doing that as it takes up a lot of time to process, if your licence is expired or you don’t have one organise one from CAMS (www.cams.com.au). You need a Level 2NS licence, a renewal or new licence form is available under “Forms” on the CAMS Website.

Scout Registration
Please ensure your scout registration is current, if you have not organised a WWC card as per Branch Policy you may be marked as inactive, just as if you did not pay your fees last year. If you are not an active member, you will not be permitted to drive. You should have received a letter explaining this if that is the case. Either way, please make sure your rego is current. We’ll be checking everyone who is entering before the event but it is your responsibility to ensure you are registered.

If you have any queries regarding the above, please contact Matty McKernan on 0401 060 013.

Further Regulations Released

April 30th, 2008

Further Regulations for Mudbash have been released. These are available here. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact the Event Director Matty McKernan or Clerk of Course Pip Gray. Phone numbers have been listed on the further regulations.

These Further Regulations are in addition to the RSM Standing Regulations, Mudbash Supplementary Regulations and CAMS National Competition Rules.

Please read these carefully to fully ensure you understand these.

These regulations have been issued for the following purposes:

  • Crews may now enter more than one car or the same car more than once. CAMS National Competition Rule 88 prevented multiple entries from being accepted and therefore the Mudbash committee has granted permission to all crews to have multiple entries.  History has shown that there is a number of crews with multiple entries for Mudbash.  This includes crews that enter vehicles for both the Rover and Other Rover Scout Motorsport classes.  Without these further regulations, crews could not enter their car twice.
  • The purpose of Rover Scout Motorsport Events such as Mudbash, Lead Foot Challenge and Opposite Lock, is to enable as many Rovers as possible, to participate and enjoy motor sport competition.  These regulations give more Rovers the chance to do so.
  • Members from other crews can now be a passenger with you. This means that if a member from a crew without a car, but has an appropriate licence,  will be able to act as passenger in your crew’s car. This increases participation in the event for crews who do not have a car.
  • Mudbash Regulations stipulate that only the registered RA for your crew can drive the RA’s event. The additional regulation means you can ask a fellow scout leader, group leader, venturer leader to drive the RA’s event and represent your crew. They must meet standard CAMS licence terms and be a member of Rover Scout Motorsport.
